Reviewer Guidelines
Andean Journal of Health Sciences thanks its reviewers for their contribution to the scientific publication process. Peer review is essential to ensure the quality and integrity of published articles.
1. Review Process
AJHS uses a double-blind review system: neither authors know the identity of reviewers nor do reviewers know the identity of authors. All manuscripts are evaluated by at least two independent external reviewers.
2. Deadlines
| Stage | Deadline |
|---|---|
| Response to invitation (accept or decline) | 14 days |
| Submission of review report | 30 days |
If you are unable to meet the deadlines, please notify the editor in advance so an alternative reviewer can be found.
3. Evaluation Criteria
The review report should evaluate the following aspects:
- Originality: the work represents a new contribution to knowledge in health sciences.
- Relevance: the topic falls within the scope of AJHS.
- Methodological rigor: the study design is valid, reproducible, and statistically appropriate.
- Ethics: the study has the required ethical approvals and clinical trials are properly registered.
- Clarity: the manuscript is well written and organized.
- References: citations are relevant, up to date, and correctly formatted in Vancouver style.
4. Final Recommendation
Upon completing the review, the reviewer must issue one of the following recommendations:
- Accept: the manuscript can be published without changes or with minor corrections.
- Minor revisions: the manuscript requires specific corrections that do not require a new review round.
- Major revisions: the manuscript requires substantial changes and a new review round.
- Reject: the manuscript does not meet the journal's standards.
5. Confidentiality
Manuscripts received for review are confidential documents. They must not be shared with third parties or used for any purpose other than evaluation. The identity of authors and reviewers is kept confidential at all times.
6. Conflict of Interest
If you identify any conflict of interest with the authors, institution, or manuscript content, notify the editor immediately and decline the review.
7. Report Tone and Format
Comments should be constructive, specific, and respectful. It is recommended to:
- Number comments to facilitate author responses.
- Distinguish between mandatory observations and optional suggestions.
- Avoid comments that could reveal the reviewer's identity.
