Publication Process
Andean Journal of Social Sciences follows a rigorous and transparent editorial process from manuscript submission to online publication. Each stage is described below.
Stage 1 — Registration and Submission
The corresponding author must create a personal account in this journal's portal. Credentials are not valid in other Andean Journals publications. Once registered, the author uploads the manuscript and supplementary files through the OJS system. An automatic confirmation is sent by email.
Estimated time: immediate.
Stage 2 — Editorial Check
The Editor-in-Chief verifies that the manuscript meets basic requirements: journal scope, correct format, adequate length, accepted language, and compliance with ethical guidelines. Manuscripts that do not pass this check are returned to the author without peer review.
Estimated time: 5 to 7 business days.
Stage 3 — Peer Review
Manuscripts that pass the editorial check are assigned to at least two external reviewers through a double-blind process. Reviewers evaluate originality, methodological rigor, relevance, and clarity. They issue a recommendation: Accept, Minor Revisions, Major Revisions, or Reject.
Estimated time: 4 to 6 weeks.
Stage 4 — Editorial Decision
The Editor-in-Chief makes the final editorial decision based on reviewer reports. The corresponding author is notified by email with the decision and, where applicable, reviewer comments to prepare a revised version.
Estimated time: 3 to 5 business days after receiving reports.
Stage 5 — Revision and Corrections
If revisions are required, the author must submit the corrected version along with a response letter detailing the changes made. The Editor-in-Chief may send the revised manuscript to the original reviewers for a second evaluation if changes are substantial.
Time for author: 2 to 4 weeks depending on revision type.
Stage 6 — Acceptance and APC
Once the manuscript is accepted, the corresponding author receives formal acceptance notification along with instructions for payment of the article processing charge (APC). Publication proceeds after payment confirmation. During the inaugural waiver period the APC is USD 0.
Stage 7 — Production and Publication
The editorial team performs copyediting, typesetting, and CrossRef DOI assignment. The article is published online in PDF format with complete metadata. The author receives the publication link and article DOI.
Estimated time: 2 to 3 weeks after payment confirmation.
