Author Guidelines
Before preparing your manuscript, we recommend carefully reading the Aims and Scope of the journal to verify that your work falls within the thematic areas of AJES.
1. Article Types
| Type | Length | Abstract | References |
|---|---|---|---|
| Research Article | 4,000–8,000 words | 200 words | No limit |
| Review Article | 6,000–10,000 words | 300 words | No limit |
| Technical Note | 2,000–4,000 words | 150 words | 30 maximum |
| Short Communication | 1,500–2,500 words | 150 words | 20 maximum |
Note: Length limits are based on the practices of engineering journals (IEEE, ASME, Elsevier Engineering journals). The word count includes only the main text (from Introduction to the last section of the body), excluding abstract, references, tables, figures, and supplementary material.
2. Accepted Languages
Manuscripts may be written in Spanish or English. The title, abstract, and keywords must be presented in both languages regardless of the manuscript's main language.
3. Manuscript Structure
Research articles must follow the following structure:
- Title: concise and informative, maximum 20 words.
- Abstract: structured as Introduction, Methods, Results, and Conclusions. Maximum 200 words.
- Keywords: between 4 and 8, separated by semicolons.
- Introduction: contextualization of the problem, review of relevant literature, and study objective.
- Methods: detailed and reproducible description of the experimental design or approach used.
- Results: objective presentation of findings, with tables and figures when appropriate.
- Discussion: interpretation of results in relation to existing literature.
- Conclusions: synthesis of the work's contributions and future research directions.
- Conflict of interest statement: mandatory. If none exists, state "The authors declare no conflict of interest."
- Funding: indicate funding sources or declare their absence.
- References: IEEE style with numbered brackets format.
4. File Format
- Main file: Microsoft Word (.docx). Download the official template: Spanish Template | English Template
- Font: Times New Roman 12pt, 1.5 line spacing.
- Margins: 2.5 cm on all sides.
- Figures: embedded in the text and also submitted as separate files in TIFF or PNG format with minimum 300 dpi resolution.
- Tables: created in Word, not as images.
5. Citation Style
AJES uses the IEEE citation style. References are numbered in brackets in order of appearance in the text. Examples:
- Journal article: A. Lastname and B. Lastname, "Article title", Journal Name, vol. 1, no. 1, pp. 1–10, 2026.
- Book: A. Lastname, Book Title. City: Publisher, 2026.
- Conference: A. Lastname, "Title", in Proc. Conference Name, City, 2026, pp. 1–5.
6. Ethical Considerations
By submitting a manuscript to AJES, authors agree to comply with the following ethical requirements. For a full description of Andean Journals' scientific integrity policies, please refer to the Ethics Statement.
Originality and plagiarism. The manuscript must be original, must not have been previously published, and must not be under simultaneous consideration at another journal. All manuscripts are verified using plagiarism detection software. The acceptable similarity threshold is 10%, excluding references and appropriate citations.
Authorship. Only those who have made a substantial contribution to the work and have approved the final version of the manuscript should be listed as authors. The corresponding author is responsible for confirming the agreement of all co-authors prior to submission.
Conflicts of interest. All financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest must be declared. If none exist, the following statement must be included: "The authors declare no conflict of interest".
Data availability. All articles must include a Data Availability Statement. This statement is mandatory even when no new data were generated or when data are unavailable due to ethical or privacy restrictions.
Studies involving humans or animals. Approval from the relevant institutional ethics committee is required. The approval number must be stated in the Materials and Methods section. Studies involving humans must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki; studies involving animals must comply with the 3Rs principles and the ARRIVE guidelines.
Use of generative artificial intelligence. The use of GenAI tools in writing, analysis, or data generation must be declared in the Acknowledgements section. Use exclusively for spelling or grammar correction does not require declaration. GenAI tools cannot be listed as authors.
Image manipulation. Selective manipulation of images that distorts results is not permitted. Brightness or contrast adjustments must be applied uniformly and declared.
7. Data Availability Statement
All articles published in AJES must include a Data Availability Statement. This section should indicate where the data supporting the reported results can be found, including links to publicly archived datasets. When no new data have been created, or when data are unavailable due to privacy or ethical restrictions, an explicit statement is still required. Examples of accepted statements:
- "The data supporting the results of this study are available upon request from the corresponding author."
- "Data are available at [repository name] at [URL/DOI]."
- "No new data were generated or analyzed in this study."
8. Cover Letter
All manuscripts must be accompanied by a cover letter submitted as a supplementary file during the submission process. The letter should be written in the primary language of the manuscript and must contain at least:
- Significance and contribution of the work: a brief description of why the work is relevant and what its main contribution to the field is.
- Relevance to the journal: a justification of why the work is appropriate for the scope of AJES.
- Originality statement: confirmation that the work is original, has not been previously published, and is not under simultaneous consideration at any other journal.
- Conflict of interest statement: indicate whether conflicts exist or explicitly declare their absence.
- Use of generative artificial intelligence (if applicable): indicate which GenAI tools were used and for what purpose. If none were used, state this explicitly.
- Suggested reviewers (optional): at least 5 potential reviewers with their full name, institutional affiliation, and institutional email address. Proposed reviewers must not have any conflict of interest with any of the authors.
An official cover letter template is available: Carta de presentación (español) | Cover letter (English)
9. Submission Process
Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through the AJES online portal. The corresponding author must register with their own account on this portal — credentials are not valid for other journals in the Andean Journals group. Once submitted, you will receive an email confirmation.
