Author Guidelines

Before preparing your manuscript, we recommend carefully reading the Aims and Scope of the journal to verify that your work falls within the thematic areas of AJES.

1. Article Types

Type Length Abstract References
Research Article 4,000–8,000 words 200 words No limit
Review Article 6,000–10,000 words 300 words No limit
Technical Note 2,000–4,000 words 150 words 30 maximum
Short Communication 1,500–2,500 words 150 words 20 maximum

Note: Length limits are based on the practices of engineering journals (IEEE, ASME, Elsevier Engineering journals). The word count includes only the main text (from Introduction to the last section of the body), excluding abstract, references, tables, figures, and supplementary material.

2. Accepted Languages

Manuscripts may be written in Spanish or English. The title, abstract, and keywords must be presented in both languages regardless of the manuscript's main language.

3. Manuscript Structure

Research articles must follow the following structure:

4. File Format

5. Citation Style

AJES uses the IEEE citation style. References are numbered in brackets in order of appearance in the text. Examples:

6. Ethical Considerations

By submitting a manuscript to AJES, authors agree to comply with the following ethical requirements. For a full description of Andean Journals' scientific integrity policies, please refer to the Ethics Statement.

Originality and plagiarism. The manuscript must be original, must not have been previously published, and must not be under simultaneous consideration at another journal. All manuscripts are verified using plagiarism detection software. The acceptable similarity threshold is 10%, excluding references and appropriate citations.

Authorship. Only those who have made a substantial contribution to the work and have approved the final version of the manuscript should be listed as authors. The corresponding author is responsible for confirming the agreement of all co-authors prior to submission.

Conflicts of interest. All financial, institutional, or personal conflicts of interest must be declared. If none exist, the following statement must be included: "The authors declare no conflict of interest".

Data availability. All articles must include a Data Availability Statement. This statement is mandatory even when no new data were generated or when data are unavailable due to ethical or privacy restrictions.

Studies involving humans or animals. Approval from the relevant institutional ethics committee is required. The approval number must be stated in the Materials and Methods section. Studies involving humans must comply with the Declaration of Helsinki; studies involving animals must comply with the 3Rs principles and the ARRIVE guidelines.

Use of generative artificial intelligence. The use of GenAI tools in writing, analysis, or data generation must be declared in the Acknowledgements section. Use exclusively for spelling or grammar correction does not require declaration. GenAI tools cannot be listed as authors.

Image manipulation. Selective manipulation of images that distorts results is not permitted. Brightness or contrast adjustments must be applied uniformly and declared.

7. Data Availability Statement

All articles published in AJES must include a Data Availability Statement. This section should indicate where the data supporting the reported results can be found, including links to publicly archived datasets. When no new data have been created, or when data are unavailable due to privacy or ethical restrictions, an explicit statement is still required. Examples of accepted statements:

8. Cover Letter

All manuscripts must be accompanied by a cover letter submitted as a supplementary file during the submission process. The letter should be written in the primary language of the manuscript and must contain at least:

An official cover letter template is available: Carta de presentación (español) | Cover letter (English)

9. Submission Process

Manuscripts must be submitted exclusively through the AJES online portal. The corresponding author must register with their own account on this portal — credentials are not valid for other journals in the Andean Journals group. Once submitted, you will receive an email confirmation.
